Theme 8: Doping is Not a Quick Performance Fix

Facing performance or appearance-related stressor evokes emotional reactions that determine to certain degree whether the use of doping or PAES becomes an option to consider. Psychologists argue that in the effort to regulate emotions or to solve problems, people use various strategies. This session explains what emotion regulation is and what problem solving strategies have been described empirically in the past. Furthermore, this Session proposes one particular problem-solving strategy (i.e., cognitive re-appraisal) as the most efficient to solve dilemmas or problems that relate with doping substances of PAES use. Using an experiential activity and role playing, this Session aims to enhance self-efficacy to observe and regulate emotions that are evoked from performance and appearance-related stressors, leading to increased health and doping awareness literacy.
